Southern Baptist partners on short-term mission to the Northwest Megacities.           Back to Main page

Thank you for your interest in serving on a short-term mission opportunity in one of the Northwest Megacities. There are numerous ways that you can be on mission in our cities. Many times, due to our proximity to the U.S. border, you'll find it easier to serve here than anywhere else in Latin America. While we welcome your visit, we do have some guidelines that we hope you will heed. Above all else, we want to see Christ glorified and the gospel shared in such a manner that people come to know Christ and are assimilated into the body of Christ. We are learning that some activities that have been traditionally perceived as effective missions strategies actually hinder the work. We ask you to follow the lead of the resident missionary. Blessings to you!

Here are but a few ideas for short-term service. Contact us for more information about specific opportunities in specific locations on specific dates.

Prayer Warriors
Commit to pray for a specific part of the work in Sonora. At your request we will send you more information on how you can take the offensive to pray fervently and effectively for a part of Hermosillo. Pray from the comfort of the U.S., or bring a team of prayerwalkers to do frontline battle in prayer on the streets of Hermosillo. Either way, you'll be making an eternal difference for the kingdom!

Beasts of Burden
That's how some Southern Baptist volunteers in Hermosillo have felt after lugging heavy backpacks full of gospel materials. You could be part of a team that distributes portions of God's Word into the homes and hearts of the lost of Hermosillo. You'll hit the streets, knocking on doors, and greeting people in your best Spanglish. The Bible is powerful to penetrate hardened hearts and affect change in hurting, searching families.

Street Theater
Why not bring a team of actors, musicians, or sports enthusiasts to engage people where they live with the love of Christ. You can share a smile, a message of hope, and you can confront people in their lostness. The people of Hermosillo are friendly and gracious to strangers, but most are trying to make it to heaven by being good. You will make a difference, one person at a time.

Language Arts, Anyone?
Are you a Spanish speaker? Why not come to Hermosillo and be on the frontlines as we share Christ with nonbelievers? See them come to Christ and then guide them on their first steps as a new believer. Don't speak Spanish? Guess what...English is extremely popular among the young professionals of Hermosillo. Why not come to the city and teach English with a Christian twist? From informal meetings to semester-long opportunities at local universities, your language skills could be the gift that God will use to bring Hermosillo to Christ.
